SMART Goals
- I want to secure $2,150.00 outside of monies received from registration fees to help fund Summit conference. I will compile a list of potential donors that may have interest in our cause such as GVSU, Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce, Experience Grand Rapids, Regional Air Alliance of West Michigan, Panera Bread, Choice Hotels, Grand Hotel, Amway, PNC Bank, and the Grand Rapids Griffins. A group of five students will be in charge of contacting and communicating with these sponsors. Each member of the group with have a minimum of two resources to contact and will start contacting them as soon as February 18th, 2013. The members of this group will create a letter explaining to potential donors the history of our event, what we are trying to accomplish, and the importance of our event. This group will keep record of conversations with each resource and complete an invoice for all donations that have been promised.
- I want to get a catered lunch for 250 people for our event on April 12th, 2013. A group of four students will be in charge of contacting and communicating with caterers. The group will contact at minimum of two restaurants per week for 6 weeks, starting as soon as February 18th, 2013. The group will explain to each one of them the objective and the importance of this venture and then ask for a quote for a catered lunch. Each member of the group will write down conversation and quotes from each restaurant. After we find an appropriate caterer for our objective and our budget, we will confirm with the chosen caterer.
- I want to have 225 HTM students attend the Summit conference. We will create buzz through Facebook, twitter, Pinterest, HTM PowerPoint announcements, as well as have a website to create interest and provide information of the event for the students. We will make two videos to be shown in class that will be post on the HTM PowerPoint announcement. We will have flyers indicating the date, time, and registration fee for the event that will be passed out by the students planning the event who can answer any questions the students may have. We will use the theme “ticket to tomorrow” and incorporate it into all of our marketing material.
- I want to make sure that the registration process at DeVos Place is efficient. There will be a group of four students in charge of organizing and coordinating the registration table at DeVos Place on April 12th, 2013. The group will have a list of all HTM students that registered online at the registration table, sorted alphabetically by their first name. There will be three lines for three sections of the table, for different sections of the alphabetized list. For example, there will be a line for registered guests with the first letter of their first name A-H, I-P, and Q-Z and each section will have a sign indicating the letters that line is for. There will be six people at the registration table on the day of the event. Four of the people will be marking off the names of guests as they arrive, giving the attendees their welcome bag as well as their take away gift, and giving them their lanyards with their name tag. Two of the people will be focusing on welcoming the speakers as they arrive and showing them to their room, as well as giving them an agenda for the day. There will also be 21 other people helping answer any questions and guide the attendees in the direction they need to go.
- I want to make sure that all attendees know where they are supposed to go from the time they enter Devos Place until the time they leave. There will be staff that can be clearly identified and placed throughout the event telling attendees where registration tables, LinkedIn head shots, breakout sessions, the keynote speaker, lunch, and bathrooms are located and how to get there. Each student will receive a printed agenda with times and rooms for each scheduled event. There will also be signs outside every breakout room listing the time, speaker, and title of the session.
